Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MEDT) is the federal executive body, performing functions in the development of the state strategy and legal regulation in the spheres of:

• analysis and forecasting of social and economical development;
• improvement of entrepreneurial activities, including middle and small-scale businesses;
• foreign economical activities;
• taxation;
• trade;
• ownership relations;
• insolvency (bankruptcy) and financial strengthening of organizations;
• land ownership relations and territorial zoning;
• economical development of subjects of the Russian Federation and municipal institutions;
• elaboration of the interstate and federal target programs;
• mobilization preparation of the national economy;
• management of the state fiscal reserve;
• formation of the state defense order;
• purchase of goods and services for state and municipal needs.

Ministry of Economic Development and Trade coordinates and controls the activities of Federal Tax Service, Federal Agency for State Reserves, Federal Real Estate Cadastre Agency, Federal Agency for Management of Federal Property. Coordinates activities of Russian Fund of Federal Property.

The Ministry is the authorized federal body in the sphere of state regulation in the foreign trade and appraisal activities; controls and coordinates the conduction of tenders for ordering the supplies of goods for state needs.
